Barbers, Books & Badges

The barbershop is a community institution, one of the most familiar and stable businesses in any neighborhood. Men and boys frequent barbershops, and barbers get to know customers by name and personality.  


Barbers, Books & Badges is an innovative literacy program designed to make the most of a naturally occurring opportunity: the wait for a turn in the barber chair. Participating barbershops set up reading nooks to encourage boys to read and to foster positive interactions between boys of color and law enforcement. 


We are looking to expand this program into more barbershops across East Baton Rouge Parish. Complete the interest form below to participate.

PROJECT M.A.D.E.

Project MADE is a mentoring program designed to dismantle the School-to-Prison Pipeline by advocating for timely re-engagement of students in appropriate, safe and enriching educational environments. We emphasize the fact that mentors "Make A Difference Everyday". Capital Area P.A.L. is a proud partner with this program. Consider serving as a mentor today!

EXPLORER PROGRAM

The Law Enforcement Explorers program provides young men and women from the city's diverse communities with an introduction to a career in law enforcement or a related field in the criminal justice system. The program, geared for ages 14 to 20, often results in strengthening ties between the community and police.
